September Book Club – “Moxyland”

The book for the September Phandemonium Book Club will be “Moxyland” by Lauren Beukes. She is one of this year’s Campbell Award nominees. We will meet on Sunday, September 25, at 6:30pm at the Barnes and Noble in Evanston, (1630 Sherman Ave).

The date has been selected for the September book club. Mark Sunday, 9/25, on your calendars! The book will be selected at the July book club meeting, which is 7/24 for “Little Fuzzy” by H. Beam Piper. Both meetings will take place at the Barnes & Noble in Evanston from 6:30 to 8:30. We’ll be at the tables upstairs. See you there!

Bookclub Location – May & July, 2011

The Barnes & Noble in Evanston has reserved two tables in the area upstairs for our next two bookclubs. Those are on May 22 for “Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang” by Kate Wilhelm and July 24 for “Little Fuzzy” by H. Beam Piper. Both meetings take place from 6:30 to 8:30.

The Borders we have met at for the last 6.5 years is one of the ones that is closing. Our March 27 Book Club will meet at Barnes & Noble, 1630 Sherman Avenue, in Evanston at 6:00pm (note earlier than usual start time!). We will discuss options for our new permanent home that evening.

Remember, the book will be “In The Garden of Iden” by Kage Baker.

There will be a book club meeting at Capricon 31. We’ll be discussing GoH John Scalzi’s novel, “The God Engines”. Capricon 31 is being held from February 10-13, 2011 at the Westin Chicago North Shore, 601 N Milwaukee Ave, Wheeling, IL. The exact date and time of the book club is TBD.

The January book club will be the steampunk novel, “Boneshaker” by Cherie Priest. We will be meeting on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 6:30pm at the Borders Books in Evanston, IL (1700 Maple Ave). We hope to see you there!

So while Capricon is busy throwing a party Friday night to help promote this year’s convention, Escape!, Phandemonium will be busy at Windycon as well. Or more particularly, the Phandemonium Book Club. Come join us at Windy and add to the discussion. The book club will have not one but two sessions over the course of the weekend.

On Saturday, November 13th , from noon to 1PM in the Walnut Room, we will be discussing, The City and the City by China Mieville

And for those of you still around on Sunday, November 14th, we’ll be discussing The Wind-Up Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi, Also in the Walnut Room from noon to 1PM. (Maybe we should just rename it the Phandemonium Book Club Room)
