Capricon is a 100% volunteer run convention, and we want you to help us make it happen! We have lots of opportunities for people to volunteer to help make Capricon a success.
Convention Roles
Every year we need volunteers to help plan the convention. These volunteers arrange for all the things you see happen at the convention, plus all the things most attendees don’t see! Creating the program, organizing the Art Show and Dealers Room, coordinating at-con volunteers, running registration, facilitating move-in and move-out…there are jobs that take place before, during, and after the convention. There are big jobs and small jobs.
If you are interested in seeing how it all comes together, we encourage you to volunteer with us! We will work with you to find a role that fits your interests, availability, and skill set. To get started, fill out our volunteer interest form and we’ll get back to you. You can also reach out to us at volunteers@capricon.org.
Below are the most critical jobs we’re looking to fill right now, but we have many other roles available, including support roles for these and other departments.
Art Show Department Head
The art show lead is responsible for the set up, management, and breakdown of the art show. Responsibilities include coordinating with artists to ensure that work is displayed attractively and securely, and returned in a timely manner; coordinating with buyers to ensure prompt payment for and delivery of work; and coordinating with the convention to ensure payment of artists and efficient management of space, personnel, and supplies. You will help recruit and oversee a team of 2-4 staffers to be present for the duration of the convention, and delegation/task sharing is encouraged. Documentation and training by an experienced prior lead is available, and we have eager staffers who’ve already volunteered. Now they just need a leader!
Sponsorships
Help us fund doing cool things at Capricon! We’re looking for someone to brainstorm sponsorship opportunities, and then identify and communicate with potential sponsors.
Graphic Designer
This person is responsible for creating promotional assets, both for print and electronic, to be used to promote the convention. This could include creation of art, but that is not a requirement – our primary need is for graphic design and layout. This is a pre-con job that would start immediately.
To apply for any of these roles, or to find out what else we have available, go fill in our form and we’ll get back to you!
Board of Directors Roles
In addition to the convention planning, the Board of Directors also has ongoing staff positions, and also opportunities for some ad hoc deliverables. All roles are strictly volunteer, with Board meetings occurring monthly and work done in between the meetings.
Here’s what we currently have available:
Coordinator for Community Outreach / Second
This is a non-voting Staff position focused on leading Phandemonium’s efforts to promote an environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all participants and members both in and outside of the convention proper. We will also be looking for someone to be the Second for the Coordinator.
Accessibility Coordinator / Second
