Art Show Rules
..........
Capricious - Heheheh

We want your science fiction and fantasy artwork!
Since we can't afford to buy it all, we figure we'll help you show it off and sell it off. These Rules should set forth how we plan to handle the Show, the Auction, the Print Shop, the Awards, and the Artist's Challenge.

We are looking for volunteers to help this run smoothly and suggestions for arts related programming (an artists jam and some game called exquisite corpse are possibilities). If you have Art Show related questions or suggestions, or want to volunteer contact us at: artshowcapriconorg.

Capricon 25 - Mad Scientists

February 10-13, 2005
Arlington Heights, IL

THE SHOW
Work is displayed in a "Unique Show" and in a "Print Shop". The "Unique" pieces are usually for sale, and they are sold through an auction. The "Print Shop" pieces are always for immediate sale at a price set by the artist.

The Unique show starts with a silent auction. Each piece has a "bid sheet" which the artist may mark "NFS" (Not For Sale), or which will set forth the Minimum Bid that the artist will take for that piece. Works that receive four bids during the silent auction are then put in the audible, nay, verbal (even verbose), and frequently hilarious Art Auction on Saturday evening. Over the years, we have been privileged to have great auctioneers, and we expect to be privileged and impressed yet again. All Unique works (NFS included) are eligible to receive awards. Awards are announced and given out at the Art Auction on Saturday.

The winning bidder for a piece is asked to pick up and pay for his, her, or its purchases on Sunday morning, (frequently we also open up for payment late on Saturday; this depends on staffing). Pieces that do not sell are picked up by the artists or mailed back to artists who participate by mail.

THE ARTIST'S CHALLENGE
You are challenged to submit a piece, in any medium, that incorporates three of the following elements: a goat (as always), a beaker/test-tube, lost marbles, and a Rube Goldberg machine. There will be an award for the best Artist Challenge piece.

“Rube Goldberg” is a registered trademark of Rube Goldberg Inc.

DISPLAY SPACE & CHARGES
Unique Art
We have tables and 4' x 4' pegboard panels available for Unique Art. The Art Show charges $4.00 per unit of hanging space (a 4' x 4' panel or a 1/2 table). A 10% commission is charged against every sale. A 5% mail-in commission is added if you mail in art or prints.

Pegboard hooks and binder clips will be provided. Space is generally allocated on a first come, first choice basis. We reserve the right to limit the number of panels and tables used by any one artist. Each artist may submit a maximum of 25 pieces.

Our room is large, and I expect space to be available as artists check in Thursday and early Friday. There are no guarantees, however, (OK, the artist GOH has guaranteed space), so send in your reservation (and payment) today.

A reservation form should be posted at our web site soon.

DISPLAY SPACE & CHARGES
Print Shop
We set aside an area, usually with tables, sometimes with peg board to help in the display. You can set up your work within the print shop, but expect to share space with other artists. We reserve the right to move or re-arrange your prints so that other artists have a fair share of the available space. A 10% commission is charged against every sale. A 5% mail-in commission is added if you mail in art or prints.

MINIMUM DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS
All two-dimensional work must be matted, mounted or framed. All artwork mut have the artist's name and contact information securely attached to it, preferably on the back of it. All print shop pieces must be clearly priced by the artist. You will need to fill out a bid sheets for each unique piece in the show. You will need to fill out a control sheet for all of your work.

Bid sheets are at:
http://www.capricon.org/capricon25/paperwork/bidblank1.pdf
Control sheets are at:
http://www.capricon.org/capricon25/paperwork/controlsheet1.pdf

We do not have display cases or other ways to secure easily portable pieces. We encourage you to protect your smaller pieces by bringing in your own display case.

WHAT WE MEAN BY "UNIQUE"
A work is "Unique" if it is an original work by the artist or a single print from a limited print run, signed and numbered by the artist. If you want to show or sell multiple copies of a print, see the "Print Shop" rules below. If you want to put up a painting in the Unique show and prints from that painting in the Print Shop, that is fine. Do not hang a print in the Unique show while putting identical prints in the print shop.

This year we will be giving out five awards:

Best In Show,
Best Piece by a Pro,
Best Piece by a Fan,
Best Met Challenge (Artist=s Challenge)
