(AKA Filk – find Peter or Pretty Peter for an explanation. Trust us…. it’s a good story.)
Welcome to the Inn in the Sky!
Come on in, pull up a chair, have a drink or a snack, and let us tell you a story. Since the dawn of time whenever anyone starts a story with “So I was at this party…” you know whatever comes next is going to be an epic tale. We want to help get the stories of tomorrow started today. How are we going to do that you’re probably asking yourself. Well, we’re going to help a group of brave souls throw some amazing parties for everyone else, so that by Sunday evening you’ll all be telling stories that begin…. “So I was at this party at Capricon….”
If you’re interested in attending the parties…. check back with us later, we’ll have more information as we get closer to the start of Capricon about who’s doing what, and when.
If you’re interested in throwing a party and helping us get people’s stories started. Yay! You Rock! You’re in the right place, at the right time for more information. All of our parties are held on the 15th and 16th floors of the Westin. If you’re trying to throw a party in a different building, that’s going to be quite a story. Parties can happen Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. We have several suites available at $149 per night. There are also standard rooms available on the party floors at the regular convention rate of $107 per night. Beds can be removed from the room but the hotel will charge you a $200 fee, and you will need to submit the request to have the bed removed at least two weeks before the convention.
If you are planning to throw a party you need to do the following:
Step 1: Make a reservation with the hotel for the night(s) you plan to throw the party. (If you’re booking multiple rooms, say 1 for sleeping and 1 for partying it’s best to do it as separate reservations.)
Step 2: Send the following information to party@capricon.org by January 15th 2016:
- The name(s) of the party host(s).
- A phone number for the primary contact.
- An email address for the primary contact.
- The reservation number from the hotel.
- The name on the hotel reservation.
- How you would like your party listed in the program book/website/schedule/etc.
- Whether you would like a suite or a regular room.
- Whether you think you will need Party Helper badges and how many. (If you need an explanation just ask)
We cannot guarantee a room on the party floor until you send us all of this information. After getting this we will work with you to make sure everyone is on the same page to make throwing your party as easy for you and us as possible. Ultimately we’re lazy people and don’t want to work too hard. So make our lives easy and we’ll do the same for you.
Once again there will be party related prizes. What a great way to start off some future story. “Let me tell you about the time when I won Best Party at Capricon 36.” seems like a good introduction. We’ll be giving out at least four awards this year (Maybe more if inspiration strikes us). The categories will be:
- Best Overall Party – Voted on by the attendees during the convention
- Best Thursday Night Party – There are a lot of us already at the convention on Thursday. Entertain us with your stories!
- Best Story Book Themed Drink – Have fun with this one. Alcohol is not required. Do you have a “Little Red Riding Hood” version of a Shirley Temple, A Goblet of Fire (Please no real fire!!!!), a Hercules Hurricane? Show off your drink making skills.
- Party Staff’s Choice – That’s right, they gave us power and we’re going to abuse it.
Important Stuff to Make the Best Stories Possible:
There is currently not a business center in the hotel due to remodeling. Please plan on any printing needs being done offsite. Thank you!
No Liquor in the Lobby
Please remember that you may not transport any container that obviously contains alcohol through the lobby of the hotel. Any bottles must be in a box. That box cannot have the name of the alcohol on the side of it. Any box or container that obviously contains alcohol WILL BE CONFISCATED BY THE HOTEL. This is hotel policy. Rubbermaid containers are your friend.
Please note that although drinks are allowed on the party floors, it is at the discretion of the party host on whether or not to allow party goers to leave their party with a drink in hand.
Obey the Law:
Things such as underage drinking and/or property damage cause serious problems for everyone involved, and Capricon as a whole. Remember, if it is illegal outside of the convention, it’s illegal inside the convention.
Respect the Party Throwers:
The people throwing the parties are working hard at their own expense to throw parties for you to enjoy. Please remember to appreciate the effort that they are expending on your behalf.
Respect Everyone Else:
A party is no fun, if you’re the only one there… If you don’t respect the other party goers you may find yourself without people to party with.
