Filk

Ok, those of you who were at last year's Capricon may recall that there was a bit of an element of Filkapalooza going on. There was loads and loads of filk programming, more filk programming than you'd see at some filk conventions, virtually wall-to-wall filk programming of all kinds, including multiple filk items going on at the same time.

This was, perhaps, a bit too much of a good thing. So we're going to try to tone it down just a bit this year, while still having lots of entertainment for the filk fans among our members.

Of course, we're off to a good start with our Fan Guest of Honor, Cat Faber, winner of multiple Pegasus Awards, a tremendous songwriter, and a pretty darn fine performer. Despite all this, she is refreshingly modest and a joy to be around. We'll be working up a number of program items to showcase Cat's talents, including -- we expect! -- concerts and workshops. So stay tuned to our program as it develops.

We have it on good authority that Wild Mercy had so much fun at Capricon last year that they're planning on coming back again this year. And we have a suspicion that if we twist their arms just so, they'll do another concert for us.

Along with the concerts, panels, workshops, and open filking on the filk track, our friends in the Internet Cafe tell us that they're planning a range of concerts in that fine venue as well. We'll be going over our schedule with them so that you won't find yourself having to decide where you want to be if filk is your primary interest at the con. Of course, we won't guarantee that the filk event isn't scheduled against Lois Bujold or Erin McKee...

We don't yet know who else from the Midwest filk community is going to be joining us, but if you're planning on coming to the con, we'd be happy to hear from you! If you've got ideas for panels and workshops that you might like to see at the con, especially those that would fit our High Fantasy theme, let us know and we'll see what we can work into the schedule.
