Capricon Masquerade

IT'S BACK!!!

After a brief hiatus, we are, once again, having a masquerade costume contest. We are looking for some people who want to take a few moments to show off their costumes and possibly win a prize. There will be no heavy technical use of equipment, as we want a light-hearted contest. Everyone who enters will earn a Merit Badge and we will have prizes awarded to the following catagories:
Best Youth (for ages 13 and under)
Best Adult Individual or Group Performance
Best Capricon Themed costume (Most Humorous)
Most Elaborate (For Homemade Costumes)
Best of Show (Over-all Best Costume)
Honorable Mention

ENTRY RULES:

All contestants must be pre-registered no later than 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Entries will be limited to the first 20 people and/or groups. You must be a registered Capricon member in order to be a contestant in the Masquerade. Entry forms will be available at registration and can be turned in at operations.They will also be available on-line. Any Capricon member can participate as there is no entry fee.

  • Any and ALL skits must be kept under 3 minutes.
  • You must check in with the judging coordinator upon arriving to the judging area. If you do not show up for the judging, you will be dropped from the contest.
  • While waiting your turn to be judged, please keep noise to a respectful whisper and NO PLAYING on the stage or in the line. This could cause you to be disqualified.
  • There will be a maximum of 6 people to a group.
  • The report time for the contest will be one hour BEFORE the costume contest begins. If you do not show up at this time, with costumes and props in hand, you cannot participate in the competition.

We will be making sure that:

  1. We have your information in hand and in the correct order for appearance on stage
  2. That all release forms have been signed.
  3. You have whatever you are going to need with you.
  4. A brief introduction will be given that will let everyone will know where to go: where to wait for their turn to get on stage, where to get on stage, where to get off stage, and where to go after they get off stage.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have an accompaning CD, please make sure it is the only song on the CD so we do not have to search for it. NOTHING else will be accepted.

The emcee will announce you/your group, skit title, and an optional introduction 50 words or less. Interaction with the Emcee during, or as part of, your performance is not allowed.

No messy, wet or icky substances that will make life difficult for the other contestants. This includes water, silly string, glitter and anything else sticky, icky, gooey or slimy.

No live animals can be entered on stage or as part of your costume. If your costume requires an animal prop, you must use a fake one.

No flagrant nudity. "No Costume is No Costume".

No dangerous or potentially dangerous props are allowed. This will be at the discretion of the judges and staff and abide by the general rules of the weapons policy.

No jumping on or off stage. Doing so may get you disqualified
